About Lyrica


Founded in 2000 by the late Natalyia Gurin and directed since 2005 by Steve Winfield, Lyrica Chamber Choir of Barrie strives to present eclectic and evocative programs of excellent choral chamber music. The 28 singers of Lyrica demonstrate a strong desire to present artistically varied choral programs with a high degree of musicianship to the community of Barrie and surrounding area. Recent highlights include performances of Faure’s Requiem, Finzi’s In Terra Pax and Vaughn-Williams Fantasia on Christmas Carols. Professional soloists and instrumental musicians regularly join Lyrica for performances. Our regular accompanist, Brent Mayhew, enhances the choir’s performances with extraordinary skill and sensitivity.

Artistic Director/Conductor- Lucie Veillette

Lucie Veillette

Lucie was born and raised in Sherbrooke, Québec. At a young age, she studied at art schools where she excelled in piano, violin, flute, and dance. She later also played percussion in the drum and bugle corps. She graduated from the University of Montréal, having earned a Bachelor in Classical Interpretation.

In her 20’s, she became very involved in the Montreal music scene where she played for a variety of prestigious organizations including the CBC Radio Choir, the Metropolitan Orchestra Choir under the direction of Agnes Grossman (Vienna Boys Choir), and Les Disciples de Massenet were she worked with renowned movie music composer Marc Ouellet. She has also worked with many actors for different theatrical performances, television, and movies. She worked for five years at a Summer Theater Program in Saint-Eustache, Montreal where she composed and played live music for the summer productions. She had the privilege of conducting the orchestra and large ensemble of Fiddler OnTheRoof , this allowed her the opportunity to become more involved in the Montreal area as a conductor. She performed for many years as a pianist for the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (New York) during their Montreal auditions. She has worked with many international singers such as baritone Marc Boucher, and Robert Marien (Jean Valjean in London’s production of Les Miserables). She was the exam accompanist for primary to university level instrumental students at Montréal’s University, schools in Laval Quebec, and Sherbrooke’s College and University music program. For eight years she worked with French pop singer Louise Forestier at the Festival en Chanson de Petite-Vallée, a career launch point for many in the French-Canadian music scene. Lucie was a pianist, percussionist, and back-up vocalist for Marie-Claire Séguin, both on tour and on her album, "Butterfly". Lucie has arranged orchestral music for many musicals such as Titanic The Musical, Les Misérables and many of Offenbach’s opérettes over the years, to name a few. She has worked as a copyist for many major symphonic orchestras in Laval, Montreal, Vancouver, etc. while working with Blair Thomson (Canadian composer and orchestrator).

Lucie moved to Barrie in 2008 and has been quite active in the Barrie music scene, particularly as accompanist for the King Edward Choir for over three years, and in the 2016 Choralfest production of Carmen. She played at York University with Lisette Canton’s Chamber Choir, and in multiple concerts with the christian singer Angela Turner. She currently teaches art and specializes in French at a primary school in CFB Borden. Lucie has been a guest conductor with Lyrica Chamber Choir in the past and looks forward to working with the members of Lyrica as their new Director.

Accompanist- Brent Mayhew

Brent Mayhew

Brent Mayhew lives in Orillia, and teaches private piano and theory lessons from his studio. He is a graduate of Western University receiving a Bachelor of Music, Honours Music Education, and a Bachelor of Education from Althouse College. He is a member of O.R.M.T.A. Brent has worked with different organizations and is the accompanist for Lyrica Chamber Choir and Jubilee Chorale. He has accompanied distinguished solo vocalists and instrumentalists in varied musical settings. He is Music Director for St. David’s Anglican~Lutheran Church in Orillia. Other engagements include pianist for a variety of professional venues. Brent's recital repertoire includes works such as Beethoven, Chopin, Grieg as well as other Romantic composers. Favourites include the original piano score for Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Brent has recorded two CDs. He first released “Schubert Impromptus” followed by Mendelssohn “Songs Without Words”. CDs are available at concerts, recitals and surrounding area.
