Lyrica opens the season with the soaring melodies and lush harmonies of Norwegian composer Kim Andre Arnesen. Arnesen was educated at the Music Conservatory in Trondheim. With a big interest in baroque music, contemporary classical music, and popular music, Kim could have taken many roads, but choral music became his greatest passion. As a composer, he had his first performance at the age of 18 with the boys´ choir. Since then he has written music that has been performed by choirs all over the world. New choral works including I Will Light Candles This Christmas, Christmas Night, and Cradle Hymn will anchor a program featuring other works by Ola Gjeilo, John Rutter, Matthew Emory, and Donald Patriquin.

Using the traditional Requiem Mass text setting, King has fashioned a modern choral classic that is at once introspective and reflective. Complex harmonies, beautiful melodies, and formal structures root this new Requiem in the context of centuries of stunning choral settings.
